CDIC Connect All: Transition Conference For Parents
The legal guardianship process for parents of children with disabilities involves formally
transferring decision-making authority to the parent or another responsible adult to manage
the personal and financial affairs of a child or young adult who, due to their disability,
cannot do so independently. This process includes several steps: filing an application,
a court investigation, a hearing, the court’s decision, and ongoing oversight after the appointment.
